Radio, TV, Trucks and America's right to bear arms.

I don't think we need to take up too much of your valuable time with the latest Sydney radio ratings. Enough for you to know that 2GB is obliterating everything else in the AM band with Jones and Hadley owning the 5:30 to noon arena — and quite a few other areas to be honest. KIIS is battling it out with WS FM and SMOOTH for control of the FM sector.

So here we are at the half way mark in another ratings year and the 2GB juggernaut continues to jugger along, at no. 1 overall – around 12.6 percent. SMOOTH FM fell victim to the "commentator's curse" – yours truly should have held his tongue in his previous blog. The Smoothies lost over a full point, down to 8%. WSFM is now the big boy in the FM market, with a rating of 9.3%.

Sitting in a doctor's surgery recently and I happened to catch an hour or so of SmoothFM. You might remember my dire warning last time of a return to the 1929 "crash", a sort of economic variation on Dante's "Inferno".

Yes, we've made it to another Radio Reunion. This time an assembly of RATS - Radio and TV Survivors. I'm lucky to be one of the survivors but trust me, there are many others who didn't manage to get safely over the raging river. Sad to hear that we've lost a few on the way.

Welcome to hell: welcome to FM programming. Looking at the latest Sydney surveys, we are still playing "snakes and ladders" on the FM band with Smooth FM picking up strongly in recent months as the usual suspects battle it out for the 18-to-45 market.

Sincere thanks to radio wiz Andrew Kilpatrick for taking the time to explain to me what Smooth FM is and where it came from. Apparently it used to be Vega but has now opted to be Smooth. I had to control my immediate reaction which was to ask Andrew what Vega was and where IT came from. Didn't pursue that line of enquiry: I hate to hear a grown man cry on the other end of the phone.
