The Spring of '17

by Frank Avis | November 17, 2017
I don't think we need to take up too much of your valuable time with the latest Sydney radio ratings. Enough for you to know that 2GB is obliterating everything else in the AM band with Jones and Hadley owning the 5:30 to noon arena — and quite a few other areas to be honest. KIIS is battling it out with WS FM and SMOOTH for control of the FM sector.

Mid Year Review... 2017

by Frank Avis | September 21, 2017
So here we are at the half way mark in another ratings year and the 2GB juggernaut continues to jugger along, at no. 1 overall – around 12.6 percent. SMOOTH FM fell victim to the "commentator's curse" – yours truly should have held his tongue in his previous blog. The Smoothies lost over a full point, down to 8%. WSFM is now the big boy in the FM market, with a rating of 9.3%.

Another Radio Reunion

by Frank Avis | January 18, 2017
Yes, we've made it to another Radio Reunion. This time an assembly of RATS - Radio and TV Survivors. I'm lucky to be one of the survivors but trust me, there are many others who didn't manage to get safely over the raging river. Sad to hear that we've lost a few on the way.

Annual radio reunion

We entered Autumn 2016 with our annual radio reunion at our favourite venue, the Pymble Hotel. Yes folks, another success thanks to our Honorary Organiser Andrew Kilpatrick - the "Keeper of our Radio Treasures".

Frank Avis loses contact with modern radio

by Frank Avis | October 20, 2015
Sincere thanks to radio wiz Andrew Kilpatrick for taking the time to explain to me what Smooth FM is and where it came from. Apparently it used to be Vega but has now opted to be Smooth. I had to control my immediate reaction which was to ask Andrew what Vega was and where IT came from. Didn't pursue that line of enquiry: I hate to hear a grown man cry on the other end of the phone.

Frank Avis Radio Memoirs (and other stuff) 2014

by Frank Avis | January 29, 2015
There has indeed been a bit of a delay in the latest update with your author having had to solve a major computer glitch. He agonized over this complex issue for some months until his daughter arrived recently, took one look at the computer, hit + on the zoom and solved the whole saga in 18 seconds.
